Education
The Faculty of Education offers continuing education programs for the professional development of teachers in several disciplines. All such programs are of 30 credits, unless otherwise indicated, and may be completed through part-time study. They are intended to provide an opportunity for teachers and other educators to enhance their existing knowledge and skills or to develop new ones, and thus are normally available only to those who are already certified as teachers.

Your application cannot be considered until all requirements have been met. Please complete the application form and submit required documents to the Office of Continuing Education, Faculty of Education.
Documents Required
In addition to those listed on the application web site, please refer to
specific requirements listed for each program. All applications require an
official transcript, application fee of $60 (non-refundable), proof of
Canadian citizenship, permanent code and proof of residency to qualify for
Quebec rate of tuition.

Academic Regulations
Satisfactory completion of the 30 credit program will qualify the student to apply for the appropriate Certificate or Diploma.
Time Limits
30-credit programs taken on a part-time basis must normally be completed within five years of admission to the program. Programs taken on a full-time basis must normally be completed within 28 months of admission to the program. Students exceeding time limits may request an extension, in writing, which may be granted under special circumstances with the approval of the Director. Students who do not register for any course in their program for one year will be required to re-apply meeting any new program requirements.
Student Teaching Practicums
In programs where there is a compulsory practicum (field experience / student teaching) a satisfactory Pass ("P") is required. If a student fails this component of the program, the student will be required to withdraw from the program, but may appeal to the Committee on Student Standing for readmission. Satisfactory progress in the student's course work is a pre-requisite for placement in the Practicum.
Grading
Students are required to obtain a C grade or higher in all required core subjects and may not include more than one D grade (not exceeding 4 credits) in the elective courses. Students who obtain no more than two D or F grades (not exceeding 8 credits) may be permitted to write supplemental examinations if they are offered and/or repeat the course. Students may repeat failed courses only once. Failures and inadmissible D grades must normally be made up within 16 months of terminating the original course.
Advanced Standing and Transfer Credits
Advanced Standing and Transfer credits may be granted to students who provide evidence of equivalent course(s) completed at McGill University or elsewhere. Students should note that courses taken more than five (5) years ago will not be recognized for advanced standing. Permission must be obtained from the program director concerned. Normally, a maximum of 9 credits is permitted. In order for credits to be accepted a grade of "C" or better must have been obtained.
Supplemental Examinations
It should be noted that supplemental examinations are not necessarily available in all courses and no supplemental examinations are offered in Art, Music, and Second Languages. It is therefore the student's responsibility to check with the individual instructors to ascertain whether or not supplementals will be available. Students who fail a course or obtain a conditional pass, a grade of D (50-54%), may be permitted to sit a supplemental, repeat the course or substitute another course. It should be emphasized that these privileges are within the discretion of the Committee on Student Standing. If permission is granted, the student must normally clear the failure or conditional pass within 16 months of terminating the original course. In order to be eligible to write a supplemental examination, the candidate must apply in writing to the Director and attach an examination fee of $35.
