An audition is mandatory for EVERY Garage Band Camp and Pop Camp registrant!
More information will be sent via e-mail to the campers that are registered and had paid their 50$ of registration fees.
Next Auditions:
- 2 weeks Camp: Friday June 1, between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., Saturday June 2, 1 : 00 pm to 5 :00 p.m.
- Tour: Friday June 1, between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m, Saturday June 2, 1:00 pm to 5 :00 p.m.
Prepare as much or as little as you can. These criteria do not determine whether or not you are accepted to Garage Band Camp (with the exception of the Tour program, where we take experiemented musicians), they merely help us place you in a band with other campers of a similar level. If this seems very frightening, note that everyone survives this terrible test(!) As a minimum, the candidate must be able to play his/her instrument - the goal of the camp isn't to teach how to play an instrument but to get together in groups to learn and jam with each other.
Candidates interested in the Tour must demonstrate a high level of performance and maturity.
Bring: Cable, pick, instrument, sticks, any pedals, etc ... To avoid lengthy changeover times between auditions, we provide amplifiers and a basic drum kit. However, please note that you will need to bring your own gear to Camp this summer. See Campers Guides.
Individual musicians:
Guitarist
Prepare at least one piece of your choice. The instructions auditioning you might also ask you to play chords and scales, they might also test your ear and your fretboard knowledge or ask you to read a chord chart.
Bass Player
Prepare at least one piece of your choice. The instructions auditioning you might also ask you to play scales, they might also test your ear and your fretboard knowledge or ask you to read a chord chart.
Drummer
Be prepared to show us 3 different styles of drumbeats and be able to play along with the instructor auditioning you. You might be asked to play in certain styles, or to demonstrate fills or rudiments.
Keyboardist
Prepare a piece of your choice - preferably something in the general vein of rock (Beethoven is super awesome, but not so much rock!). The instructions auditioning you might also ask you to play chords or scales, they might also test your ear or ask you to read a chord chart.
Singer
Prepare a piece to be performed with a karaoke track (not the original recording). Be prepared to sing a cappella, to sing exercises, or to match pitches played for you by the instructors.
Other Instruments (Always Welcome :-) )
Prepare a piece of your choice, practice your chords, scales, reading, ear training, etc. Our instructors could ask anything!
Complete Bands:
Prepare two songs - one loud and one soft - to show us your musical versatility!
Tour audition
On the top of what is already specified here, we will ask you to prepare:
- One song that is not your regular style of music. For example, if you are a metal lover, try something in classic rock. You play classic rock? Try prog rock! Or pop! Or folk!
- Be prepared to answer questions about your motivation to be a part of the tour!
- Bring a paper (one page MAX) answering this question: What are the 5 things that I want to do on tour and the 5 things I don't want to do on tour? This can be in point form, as you will have to explain it to the Tour Coordinator anyway!
- N.B. - Strummer, our Tour Manager, expects you to prepare well, even if you know him from last year!! Just sayin’ … ;)
Pop! Camp auditions
For singers, we will ask you to prepare 2 pieces: One " A capella" and the other one with a soundtrack (either karaoke, or provide a chart of your music no later than one week prior to your auditions). For house band members, refer yourself to the Garage band audition section.
