The Communications Services unit within the Office of Communications and External Relations supports the University in four broad areas:
1. Strategic Communications
The strategic communications team provides the University with general communications and marketing expertise, including the development of communications plans. They also provide strategic advice, briefings, planning and development of communications materials to senior administration.
2. Publications & Advertising
The team plans, writes and oversees the production of print advertisements and plays a leading role in the planning, writing and creative direction on strategic publications like the annual Principal’s Report and the semi-annual Headway/En tête research publication. The team collaborates very closely with the Graphics team.
3. Web Strategy, Content & Architecture
The Communication Services Web team provides the McGill community with strategic planning support, content creation and other guidance for high-importance Web offerings. The group also manages some 30 central sites including McGill's external-, student- and faculty/staff-facing home pages, and offers professional development for Web editors across the University. The team works closely with IT Services’ Content and Collaboration Solutions (CCS) unit on various Web-based initiatives.
4. Audiovisual Production
The audiovisual content team provides strategic video content for various stakeholders and communications vehicles (like the McGill Reporter; YouTube; iTunesU; and the educational TV station Canal Savoir), covering everything from campus news to key research to special events. The group works closely on the production of projects with NCS Multimedia videographers and editors as well as collaborating on the management of a studio that facilitates TV interviews and webcasts on campus.
