This year, Canada’s large grocery chains are freezing the price for a greater variety of items than usual before the holidays. Tens of thousands of people have signed on to a petition hoping to stop the sale of Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) to a private U.S. firm. The sale was announced Monday September 14 and will see Los Angeles-based private investment firm Kingswood Capital Management acquire the business and its assets. As a result, the retailer will no longer operate as a member-owned co-operative. (Global News)

At the 2019 INFORMS Annual Meeting, Professor Maxime Cohen, with co-authors Ruben Lobel and Georgia Perakis, was awarded the Best Operations Management Paper in Management Science Award within the past three years for their paper “The Impact of Demand Uncertainty on Consumer Subsidies for Green Technology Adoption”. This paper also received an honourable mention for the best publication in environment and sustainability award.
