OTTAWA (CIS) – Three McGill sports teams are listed in Week 10 of the CIS national rankings. The women’s hockey squad remains at No.1, while the volleyball Martlets have improved one berth to No.9 and the Redmen basketball has slipped three places to No.10.

Melanie Savoie and Marie-Christine Mondor combined for 44 points as visiting Laval defeated McGill 3-1 at Love Competition Hall on Friday, to sweep the best-of-three Quebec semifinal series 2-0. In a match the took exactly two hours to play, the Rouge et Or won by set scores of 27-25, 23-25-25-16-25-20.
McGill veterans Kelsey Irwin and Jennifer Thomson scored 20 and 14 points, respectively, but it was all in vain as Laval outlasted the Martlets 3-2 in an epic opener to the Quebec university women’s volleyball best-of-three semifinal playoff series before 270 fans at Centre PEPS, Thursday.
