TOP 10 TUESDAY (#10): Three McGill teams ranked

OTTAWA (CIS) – Three McGill sports teams are listed in Week 10 of the CIS national rankings. The women’s hockey squad remains at No.1, while the volleyball Martlets have improved one berth to No.9 and the Redmen basketball has slipped three places to No.10.

Martlets rally, stun Sherbrooke, to tan in Florida

MONTREAL – Jennifer Thomson of Rosemere, Que., scored 19 points and Kelsey Irwin of Vancouver, B.C., added 15 as McGill rallied from a 23-16 third-set deficit to win 27-25 and sweep Sherbrooke 3-0 in women’s volleyball at Love Competition Hall, Friday.

McGill's Thomson earns fourth All-Canadian honour

McGill senior Jennifer Thomson of Rosemere, Que., has earned all-Canadian honours for the fourth straight season. Among the other honorees announced at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport women’s volleyball major awards gala in Fredericton, Wednesday, was Martlet freshman Emily Kyte of Ottawa, who earned a berth on the CIS all-rookie team.

Thomson heads Martlet volleyball all-star trio

Three members of the McGill Martlets – Jennifer Thomson of Rosemere, Que., Kelsey Irwin of Vancouver, B.C., and Amélie Trottier-Picard of Longueuil, Que., – are among the women’s volleyball all-stars announced Thursday by the Quebec Student Sports Federation.

Laval sweeps Martlets in Quebec volleyball semifinal

Melanie Savoie and Marie-Christine Mondor combined for 44 points as visiting Laval defeated McGill 3-1 at Love Competition Hall on Friday, to sweep the best-of-three Quebec semifinal series 2-0. In a match the took exactly two hours to play, the Rouge et Or won by set scores of 27-25, 23-25-25-16-25-20.

Laval outlasts Martlets in marathon playoff opener

McGill veterans Kelsey Irwin and Jennifer Thomson scored 20 and 14 points, respectively, but it was all in vain as Laval outlasted the Martlets 3-2 in an epic opener to the Quebec university women’s volleyball best-of-three semifinal playoff series before 270 fans at Centre PEPS, Thursday.

Martlets sink Sherbrooke, to meet Laval in playoff

Junior Kelsey Irwin of Vancouver, B.C., and senior Jennifer Thomson of Rosemere, Que., combined to score 31 points as the McGill women’s volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-1 victory over Sherbrooke at Love Competition Hall, Sunday.
