CIS TOP 10 TUESDAY (#12) : No. 1 McGill closing in on women's hockey record

The No. 1-ranked McGill University Martlets extended their overall winning streak to 61 straight games over the past weekend and are now six shy of Alberta's all-time CIS women's hockey record.

Thomson tears it up as Martlets snare rare road win in Sherbrooke

All-Canadian power-hitter Jennifer Thomson of Rosemere, Que., had 17 kills and 15 digs as ninth-ranked McGill swept Sherbrooke 25-15, 25-19 and 25-22 in women's university volleyball, Friday.

CIS TOP 10 (#11): Both hockey teams in Top 4, volleyball ranked 9th

The two-time defending national champion McGill women's hockey team remain the No.1 team in the weekly CIS Top 10 poll, the hockey Redmen remain undefeated and have crept up to the No.4 spot. The volleyball Martlets are tied for No.9.

Graham grabs spotlight as volleyball Martlets upset No.4-ranked Laval

Power-hitter Amy Graham scored a game-high 13.5 points as McGill upset the No.4-ranked Laval Rouge et Or 3-0 in women's volleyball at Love Competition Hall, Friday. It marked only the eight regular-season victory ever against Laval for the Martlets, who are currently ranked 10th in the CIS national Top 10.

Top 10 Tuesday (#9); McGill ranked in volleyball and hockey

The two-time defending national champion hockey Martlets are one of three McGill squads in the Top 10 poll, released Tuesday. The Martlets, who have won 56 consecutive games, are the top-ranked team in the CIS for the 33rd consecutive poll. The hockey Redmen have moved up one notch to No.7 while the volleyball Martlets are ninth for the second straight week.

Three McGill teams ranked among CIS Top 10

Three McGill varsity teams find themselves among the CIS Top 10 poll released Tuesday. The hockey Martlets, who have won 56 consecutive games, are No.1 in the nation for the third straight week. McGill is also ranked No. 8 in men's hockey and No.8 in women's volleyball.

Béliveau becomes first McGill coach to reach 400-win plateau

Rachèle Béliveau of the McGill University women's volleyball team, has become the first coach in school history to earn 400 career wins. The former Canadian Olympian from Sherbrooke, Que., reached the milestone without much fanfare, on Oct. 4, after guiding the Martlets to a 3-1 victory over McMaster in the gold medal match of the Ottawa Quality Hotel Preseason Classic tournament.

Mansure ensures tourney victory for Martlets in Ottawa

Marcela Mansure, a native of Rio de Janeiro, and Jennifer Thomson of Rosemere, Que., paced McGill to a 4-1 record and a gold medal finish at the Quality Hotel Pre-season Classic women's volleyball tournament in Ottawa over the weekend. It was the Martlets' first tourney title since winning the same event in January, 2006.

Thomson and Irwin pace volleyball Martlets to silver at Carabins Classic

Power hitter Jennifer Thomson of Rosemere, Que., and middle blocker Kelsey Irwin of Vancouver, B.C., were both named to the all-tournament team as the McGill women's volleyball team opened their preseason with a 4-1 record and a silver medal finish at the Carabins Invitational, hosted by Université de Montreal over the weekend.

V-ball Martlets lick Laval in marathon thriller

MONTREAL – Jennifer Thomson of Rosemere, Que., and Alexandra Sheppard of North Vancouver, B.C., had 13 kills apiece as the No.10-ranked McGill volleyball Martlets outlasted Laval 3-2 in a Halloween thriller at Love Competition Hall, Friday.
