McGill Hockey and Volleyball Sports Shorts for Saturday

Both of McGill's hockey teams swept their opponents in Ottawa on Saturday. However, the two volleyball squads went down to defeat in Sherbrooke.

Carabins win 19th straight, sweep volleyball Martlets

The No.2-ranked Montreal Carabins swept No.10-McGill 25-13, 15-23 and 25-14 in women's volleyball at Love Competition Hall, Friday. It was the third straight loss for the second-place Martlets, who dropped to 13-6 and remain tied with Laval (13-6) in a heated battle for home-court advantage in the playoffs, with one match remaining on the schedule.

Bingo night to highlight tribute to grads in hoops and volleyball

The McGill University basketball and volleyball teams will both be honouring their graduating players when they host their final regular-season home games this weekend. In recognition of the graduating athletes, McGill Athletics & Recreation will be holding a "Bingo Seniors Night" during a basketball twin-bill, Saturday.

The undefeated McGill women's hockey team remain the top-ranked team in the nation in the latest CIS Top 10 poll released by the CIS. Other McGill teams ranked this week include the hockey Redmen (6th) and the Martlets volleyball squad (7th).

Irwin leads volleyball squad to sweep over Sherbrooke

Kelsey Irwin, a senior from Vancouver, B.C., scored 17 points as No.10-ranked McGill swept visiting Sherbrooke 3-0 in women's volleyball at Love Competition Hall, Sunday. The set scores were 25-17, 25-19 and 25-18 in a match that only took 75 minutes to play.

Volleyballer Thomson sparks rare win in Quebec City

Senior Jennifer Thomson of Rosemere, Que., had 13 kills, 17 digs, a 2.50 passing ratio and an ace as the visiting McGill women's volleyball squad rallied for a rare 3-1 victory over seventh-ranked Laval at the Centre PEPS on Friday.

Bielby among 11 McGill bursary winners at Quebec Foundation awards gala

McGill swimmer Steven Bielby of Pointe Claire, Que., hauled in four awards totaling $4,000 and the hockey Martlets were named Quebec women's team of the year at the 24th annual Quebec Foundation for University Athletics gala, held at the Mortagne hotel in Boucherville, Tuesday. McGill ranked third among all institutions with a combined 11 bursary recipients for $25,500.

Three McGill teams have remained inthe CIS Top 10 national rankings this week. The women's hockey Martlets, who have won 64 consecutive games against CIS opponents, remained at No. 1. The hockey Redmen have moved up two spots to No. 5 in the nation and the volleyballMartlets remained in the No.10 spot after sweeping all four interlocking games against AUS teams.
