Poorly lit Sherbrooke lights up Martlet volleyballers

Geneviève Plante of Montreal registered 14 kills and teammate Kristina Pavlovic of Richmond, B.C., contributed a dozen kills with one ace and four stuff blocks but it was insufficient as the No.9-ranked McGill women's volleyball team were upset 3-2 at Sherbrooke, Friday.

CIS TOP 10 TUESDAY (#10) : Hockey Martlets reclaim top perch

The McGill women's hockey team have reclimed their No.1 spot in the weekly national rankings. They are one of four McGill squads listed in the CIS Top 10 this week, joing the hockey Redmen (No.2), the cross-country Martlets (No.6) and the volleyball Martlets (No.8).

Six McGill teams find themselves ranked among the CIS Top 10 this week, led by the men's and women's hockey teams who are both ranked No.2. The cross-country Martlets are No.6, the volleyball Martlets are seventh and both soccer squads are No. 10.

McGill women lick Laval volleyballers

Jacqueline Ng, a senior from Vancouver, B.C., scored a game-high 16 points as the McGill women's volleyball teams came up with a huge 3-1 road victory at Laval, Saturday. The set scores were 25-22, 15-25, 25-17 and 25-22 in a somewhat lengthy match that took exactly two hours to play.

Martlets win bronze at 21st McGill Invitational Volleyball Tournament

Kaiva Mateus and Daphnée-Maude André-Morin were both named to the all-tournament team as McGill swept the Montreal Carabins with a nail-biting 26-24, 26-24 and 26-24 score to win bronze at the 21st annual Martlets invitational at Love Competition Hall, Sunday.

Oops they did it again: Plante and Rohrbach named McGill - Ye Olde Orchard athletes of the week

Geneviève Plante of Montreal and Alex Rohrbach of Princeton Junction, N.J., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Oct. 2, 2011. It marks the first time in school history that the same two athletes have been named in consecutive weeks.

Plante helps volleyball ladies strike gold in Ottawa

Geneviève Plante of Montreal, registered 19 kills, a pair of aces and a single-game school record 27 digs as the McGill Martlets women's volleyball team rallied to defeat Sherbrooke 3-2 and capture the Ottawa-Marriott preseason tournament in the nation's capital, Sunday. McGill swept all five matches in the three-day event to extend their win streak to nine.

Volleyball ladies rally to win bronze at Carabins Classic

After opening their preseason with an ominous 3-0 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues at the Ontario-Quebec invitational women's volleyball challenge, hosted by the Universite de Montreal, the Martlets roared back with four consecutive 3-0 sweeps to finish third overall.

McGill volleyball player joins Canadian national B team

Daphnée-Maude André-Morin, a 19-year-old education sophomore with the McGill University Martlets, has been selected by Volleyball Canada to play for the national developmental team which is scheduled to compete at the FISU Summer Games in Shenzhen, China, August 12-23.

McGill athletes of the year unveiled for 2011

Hockey players Alexandre Picard-Hooper of Boucherville, Que., and Cathy Chartrand, a defenceman from Lac Nominingue, Que., were named male and female athletes of the year, respectively, at the 34th annual McGill intercollegiate sports awards gala held at the Love Competition Hall, inside the Currie Gym, Thursday.

McGill volleyballer Kelsey Irwin merits all-Canadian honours

McGill volleyball player Kelsey Irwin of Vancouver, B.C., has earned all-Canadian status in voting conducted by the Canadian university volleyball coaching association. It marks only the eighth time in school history that a member of the Martlets has merited all-Canadian honours
