Bruny Surin and Hank Palmer, a pair of Canadian Olympians, and Justin (Jus Fly) Darlington, will be headline acts at the McGill University Open track and field meet at Tomlinson Fieldhouse, Saturday.

"Jus Fly" Darlington breaks oldest-standing track record at McGill

The oldest McGill University record in the books finally fell in the first varsity track and field meet of the indoor season, Friday. Freshman Justin Darlington, a Toronto-born Montrealer, was one of three McGill athletes to win a gold medal and broke a 26-year-old mark in his first collegiate competition, at the Red, Garnet & Grey Tri-Meet in Ottawa.

Track and field athletes Zaria Stoffman of Vancouver, B.C., and Lucas Lafourcade, a native of Bordeaux, France, are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Dec. 14, 2008.

McGill track and cross-country awards announced

Team captain Christina Lo Basso (pictured in centre) of Montreal was named most improved athlete in cross-country running and also received the Andrea Taylor memorial award as the most inspirational member of the McGill track and field team at their 12th annual Friends of McGill awards gala, held at Molson’s Brewery, Saturday.

Drouin-Audet triple golden at QSSF track meet

Catherine Drouin-Audet of Repentigny, Que., won three gold medals for McGill and teammate Alana Battiston of Toronto, broke a school record to highlight the Quebec university track and field championships, a two-day competition, held at the PEPS Fieldhouse in Quebec City over the weekend.

Nine records fall at McGill Team Challenge meet

Zaria Stoffman, a 5-foot-10 hurdler from Vancouver, B.C., was the only McGill athlete to win gold at the 14th annual McGill Team Challenge track and field meet at Tomlinson Fieldhouse over the weekend. The 20-year-old philosophy junior took the women’s 60m hurdles in 9.05 seconds. Six meet records and three fieldhouse marks fell – all in women’s events – in the two-day competition.
