McGill athletes of the year unveiled for 2011

Hockey players Alexandre Picard-Hooper of Boucherville, Que., and Cathy Chartrand, a defenceman from Lac Nominingue, Que., were named male and female athletes of the year, respectively, at the 34th annual McGill intercollegiate sports awards gala held at the Love Competition Hall, inside the Currie Gym, Thursday.

Six McGillians among Canadian delegation at World University Games in Turkey

Six McGillians are among a delegation of 102 student-athletes and 39 officials that will represent Canada at the 2011 Winter Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey, from Jan. 27 to Feb. 6. The opening ceremonies of the 25th Winter World University Games are set for Thursday.

McGill ski coach Côté headed for World University Winter Games

David Côté, head coach of McGill alpine ski team, has been named to the coaching staff for the CIS team that will represent Canada in alpine skiing at the 2011 Winter Universiade, also known as the World University Winter Games, in Erzurum, Turkey, Jan. 27 to Feb. 6.

Splawinski makes big splash as McGill wins first combined ski title in 19 years

Sophie Splawinski of Montreal, won gold in a giant slalom and silver in the slalom to capture the individual championship and lead the McGill alpine ski team to the Quebec university overall title, Sunday, at Stoneham Mountain Resort, located about 25 kilometres north of Quebec City.

McGill ski teams master Mt. Sutton

The McGill alpine ski team had a solid outing in a pair of giant slalom races at Mt. Sutton in the Eastern Townships over the weekend. The Redmen racked up enough points to post respective third- and first-place showings in two weekend races, while the Martlets, finished second both days.

Gilbert-Dore wins silver for McGill at Mt. Sutton

Marie-Christelle Laplante, a McGill sophomore from Sherbrooke, Que., won a giant slalom race on the Quebec university alpine circuit at Mt. Sutton, just south of the Eastern townships, Saturday.
