Thirty McGill researchers across disciplines have received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council’s (SSHRC) through their Insight Development Grants competition. In total, $35.3 million in funding for 577 research projects at 66 Canadian institutions was announced.

Today, the Government of Canada announced an investment of more than $ 301 million in support of social sciences and humanities research, bioscience infrastructure and the Canada Research Chairs Program. The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry made the announcement at the Canadian Science Policy Conference in Ottawa. McGill was awarded 35 Insight Development Grants from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and 11 renewed Canada Research Chairs (CRC) from the Canada Research Chairs Program (CRCP).

SSHRC invests over $80k in new McGill research projects through the Partnership Engage Grants competition, two of which are directly related to COVID-19 research.

Recently, the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) announced the recipients of its latest competition of Partnership Engage Grants, as well as recipients of its Special Initiative COVID-19 grant competition. Four McGill researchers received funding through Partnership Engage grants for their projects, two of which received grants under the Special Initiative COVID-19 competition.

20 McGill researchers receive funding from SSHRC through Partnership Program Grants, Partnership Development Grants, and Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) recently unveiled the recipients of its fall 2019 round of Partnership Grants, including two McGill-led projects, totalling $5 million. SSHRC also unveiled the recipients of the round’s Partnership Development Grants and Postdoctoral Fellowships, in which 18 McGill applicants received over $2 million in funding.

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) has poured research funding into two new research projects based out of the McGill library. In the Partnership Development Category, The Gwillim Project, led by Dr. Victoria Dickenson and based out of the Blacker Wood Collection will be forging new networks over the next three years. The Gwillim Project centres around the life and world of two sisters in early 19th century Madras (now Chennai), Elizabeth Gwillim and Mary Symonds.

Three innovative research partnerships at McGill University have received significant long-term investments from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) partnership grants program, totaling more than $6.8 million. Each project will use novel approaches to advance knowledge and understanding on critical issues of intellectual, social, economic and cultural significance -- from teaching computers to recognize musical symbols in images, to deepening understanding about text mining and the place of information technology within society.
