McGill sports teams to host record number of playoff games this week

It will go down as the busiest playoff week in McGill sporting history this week as the University could be hosting as many as eight playoff games in a six-day span.

McGill defenceman Dorion named OUA East player of the year

Marc-André Dorion, a native of St. Hubert, Que., and a senior on the McGill men's hockey team, has been named player of the year and defenceman of the year in the OUA East, as well as earning all-star status for the third straight season. It marks the third consecutive year that a member of the Redmen has earned League MVP honours.

Redmen stifle Gee-Gees, sweep semifinal series

Nicolas Biniek, a sophomore centre from Montreal, tallied the game-winner at 6:35 of the second period as the No.2-ranked McGill men's hockey team skated to a 5-3 win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the uOttawa Sports Complex, Friday, to sweep their OUA East best-of-three semifinal series 2-0.

Redmen rally with five unanswered goals to win semifinal opener against Gee-Gees

The No.2-ranked McGill men's hockey team spotted Ottawa a 3-0 lead but rallied with five unanswered goals for a 5-3 victory over the Gee-Gees in their OUA East semifinal opener at McConnell Arena, Wednesday. McGill can clinch the best-of-three series in Game 2 on Friday in Ottawa at 7 p.m. If a deciding game is needed, it is scheduled to be played at McConnell Arena on Sunday at 7 p.m.

McGill's Morin named RSEQ male athlete of the week

Hubert Morin of the McGill men's hockey team, has been named male athlete of the week by the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec, for the period ending Feb. 19, 2012. It marks the 10th time in 20 weeks that a McGill nomination has won the RSEQ weekly award this season.

Maxime Langelier-Parent of Lery, Que., scored once and added two helpers as the visiting McGill men's hockey team, ranked No.2 in the nation, coasted to a 5-1 victory over Queen's at the Kingston Memorial Centre, Friday. The result, combined with Wednesday's 3-2 win, gave McGill a two-game sweep in their OUA East best-of-three quarter-final series.
