Charlène Puel, a native of Lyon, France and Jessica Porfilio of Longueuil, Que., captured three trophies apiece at the 15th annual McGill University track and field awards banquet held at the McGill Faculty Club, Friday.
McGill took home 18 of 84 bursaries handed out at the 26th annual Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence gala, Wednesday, as a combined total of $189,750 was doled out to worthy student-athletes from nine Quebec universities. McGillians won five of the 11 major categories, sweeping both academic excellence prizes and both athletic excellence awards.
There are five McGill varsity teams listed this week in the CIS national rankings, including the Martlets and Redmen hockey squads, who are classified as No.1 and No.2, respectively.

Jessica Porfilio of Longueuil, Que., finished fourth overall to help McGill capture the Quebec university women's cross-country running championship at Parc de la Rivière du Moulin in Chicoutimi, Saturday. It was the second straight RSEQ conference title for the Martlets, who missed the provincial crown in 2009 after winning it for 20 consecutive seasons from 1988 to 2007.

Jessica Porfilio, a freshman from Longueuil, Que., and Sarah McCuaig, a junior from Waterloo, Ont., finished second and third, respectively, as the McGill women's cross-country running team captured the Laval Rouge et Or invitational meet on the Plains of Abraham, Saturday. It was the second meet victory of the season for the Martlets, who also took the honours at the McGill Open last month.
