Badminton teams hoping for Provincials success

They get by on the bare minimum of practice time and compete before only a handful of spectators, but the members of McGill’s badminton teams take their sport and their commitment to it every bit as seriously as their counterparts on the school’s higher-profile varsity squads.

McGill athletes of the year unveiled for 2011

Hockey players Alexandre Picard-Hooper of Boucherville, Que., and Cathy Chartrand, a defenceman from Lac Nominingue, Que., were named male and female athletes of the year, respectively, at the 34th annual McGill intercollegiate sports awards gala held at the Love Competition Hall, inside the Currie Gym, Thursday.

McGill wins gold and silver at Quebec badminton championships

The McGill tandem of Annie Laforest of Laval, Que., and Anna Durrant of Kelowna, B.C., combined to win gold at the Quebec university badminton championships over the weekend. On the men's side, McGill's Henry Pan, an 18-year-old science freshman from Saskatoon, was seeded fifth heading into the weekend but came away with an unexpected bronze-medal finish in men's singles.

McGill athletes score 19 bursaries at 25th Quebec Foundation sports gala

Swimmer Steven Bielby of Pointe Claire, Que., and hockey player Francis Verreault-Paul of Mashteuiatsh, Que., were among 19 bursary recipients from McGill to be honoured at the 25th annual Quebec Foundation for University Athletics awards gala, Wednesday.
