The CEOx1Day program offers some of Canada’s top students the opportunity to learn directly from executives at some of the country’s most prominent companies. Hosted by the Odgers Berndtson Canada consultancy, candidates undergo a rigorous selection process and shadow the CEOs of organizations like Bombardier, Canadian Blood Services and the Royal Canadian Mint. This year, two McGill Desautels Bachelor of Commerce students made the cut.

Last year, after months of hard work and 'brandstorming', two McGill Desautels teams took the podium at the 31st annual L'Oréal Brandstorm competition, competing against top teams from across Canada! Madison Laxer and her fellow Master of Management in Retailing (MMR) teammates, Aditi Bali and Supreet Kaur, took third place. Madison reflects on her experience participating in the case competition and how it even led to an internship.

Brett Miller (BCom’86) moved to Montreal to study at McGill, but he has made the city his home and become a leader in Quebec’s business community. McGill Desautels graduate Avneet Bhabra (BCom’23)’s research paper “23% and Counting, but Not ‘One Size Fits All’: Helping Canada’s Immigrants Strengthen Their Financial Knowledge” has been published by the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) on Canada.ca. Focusing on financial literacy amongst immigrants in Canada, the paper was selected as a finalist in the undergraduate category of the FCAC’s 2023 Building Better Financial Futures Challenge.

Export Development Canada (EDC) has unveiled the recipients of its 2023 Youth Education Program scholarships, awarding $135,000 to 27 post-secondary students who excel academically and exhibit a dedication to community service. Among the recipients are two Bachelor of Commerce students from McGill University, Jennifer Shi and Quynh Huynh, who received the prestigious International Business Scholarship.

As part of the fourth cohort of McCall MacBain International Fellows, eight McGill students have been selected to spend a fully funded year abroad to study, live and work in a new country, including BCom student Jennifer Shi. Originally from Ottawa, Ontario, Shi, who serves as Co-President of the Junior Hong Kong-Canada Business Association, a Junior Team Canada Ambassador at Global Vision, and a member of the Canada China Forum, will be spending a year learning Korean in South Korea.

Three more teams at the McGill Desautels Faculty of Management have been recognized for their exceptional commitment to sustainable workplace practices. The IT Customer Service department and the Bachelor of Commerce program have both earned Bronze Certifications, while the McGill Executive Institute earned a Silver Certification. Eleven teams across McGill University joined the Sustainable Workplace Certification program hosted by the McGill Office of Sustainability, five of which are from the Faculty of Management.
