Two Kavli Lectures are held at every ACS national meeting as the result of collaboration between ACS and The Kavli Foundation, an internationally recognized philanthropic organization known for its support of basic scientific innovation in astrophysics, nanoscience, neuroscience, and theoretical physics.

We are pleased to inform you that Jade Sauvé, one of our undergraduate students, supervised by her research advisor, Carolina Dufour, won the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society prize for the best student poster in physical oceanography or atmospheric sciences at the Québec Océan meeting two weeks ago.

The title of her poster is “"Antarctic sea ice trend: Insights from a suite of climate models.”

ECE undergraduates Jacob Barnett, Charles Gather, and Luke Soldano won the runner-up prize in the Mining Challenge of the 13th International Conference on Mining Software Repositories. Their submission to the challenge was based on their capstone design project that was supervised by Prof. Shane McIntosh this past academic year.

Congratulations to McGill School of Information Studies PhD student Fei Shu on receiving a FRQSC Doctoral Fellowship.

Fei’s research investigates the difference between Web of Science and local Chinese bibliometric databases and contributes to understanding of whether international bibliometric databases can be used to evaluate national research performance.

Fei's supervisors are Dr. Charles-Antoine Julien and Dr. Vincent Larivière, EBSI, UdeM.

The McGill School of Information Studies congratulates PhD in Information Studies student Fei Shu, recently selected for the iFellows Doctoral Fellowship program. Fei's thesis proposal was selected from a pool of applicants from 65 iSchools across the world. As an iFellow, Fei will receive a stipend of $50,000 USD over two years to pursue independent dissertation research that supports the goals of the Coherence at Scale Program.

Congratulations to McGill School of Information Studies PhD student Fei Shu, recently awarded the 2015 ASIS&T SIG/MET Student Paper Contest for the paper “Evolution of iSchool Movement (1988-2013): A Bibliometric View” by Fei Shu and Philippe Mongeon (McGill University and University de Montreal).

As well, Fei’s paper "Twitter Activity and Scientific Collaboration of LIS schools and Faculty Members", co-authored with two PhD students from EBSI, won the Best Altmetrics Paper in the SIG/MET workshop at the ASIS&T Annual Meeting in November 2015.
