PARALYMPIC GAMES: McGill swimmer Grand'Maison claims silver

Valérie Grand'Maison of the McGill University swim team won a silver medal at the Paralympic Games in London, Saturday. The 23-year-old native of Fleurimont, Que., posted a personal best time of 27.91 seconds in the women's S13 50-metre freestyle, which was won by Kelly Becherer of the U.S. (27.46).

Avery nets hat-trick as soccer Martlets run preseason record to 5-0-1

Striker Stephanie Avery of Tsawwassen, B.C., continued her torrid scoring pace with a hat-trick as the McGill University women's soccer team routed the UNB V-Reds 7-0 in preseason play at Chapman Field in the BMO Centre, Friday.

Refurbished McGill Fitness Centre to open Sept. 1

The newly refurbished Fitness Centre is set to open its doors on September 1. Closed since April, a new 200-square-metre mezzanine was constructed over the summer months opening up more space in one of the busiest places on campus.

The McGill University golf team begins its season on the road this week at the Bic Classic hosted by the Université du Québec à Rimouski, Aug 29-30. This two-day, 36-hole event is the first of three events in the RSEQ university golf circuit.

Martlets outlast Blues in penalty kicks at Old Four soccer tourney

It came down to penalty kicks but McGill came away with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Toronto Varsity in women's university soccer in sweltering 28-degree conditions, Saturday, advancing to the championship game of the Old Four Tournament at U of T's Varsity Centre. The teams were deadlocked at 1-1 heading into penalties, which McGill won 3-1.

Football Redmen to kickoff 132nd season at Queen's on Sunday

The McGill University Redmen will open their 132nd season of football Sunday (Aug. 26) afternoon when they travel to Kingston to play the Queen's Gaels. The preseason affair renews a long-standing rivalry which dates back to 1884. It's the first rendezvous between these clubs since Aug. 25, 2008. Queen's leads the all-time series with a 100-74-5 record overall.

NHL players poised to participate at Redmen Summer Hockey tourney, Saturday

The impending National Hockey League lockout has been a boon to the fourth annual Redmen Summer 4-on-4 Hockey Tournament. A dozen players affiliated with NHL teams have signed up to take part in the one-day event on Saturday (Aug. 25) at McConnell Arena on the campus of McGill University.

NCAA hoops squad from Las Vegas cashes in on Redmen

Adrian Hynes-Guery scored a game-high 18 points for McGill University but it was insufficient as the UNLV men's basketball team won its fourth straight game in Canada, 74-59, against the Redmen before more than 300 at Love Competition Hall, Tuesday.
