Artist-in-Residence invites students, faculty to Wednesday workshops

Maria Ezcurra, Artist-in-Residence with the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE), invites faculty and students to weekly art workshops each Wednesday. Faculty and students are invited to the library space on the 1st floor, between 10 am and 3 pm, to develop art projects. Art materials will be provided. Participants are encouraged to donate a piece of unused clothing for a series of textile portraits.

Anne Ashton's Tiburón installation to open at OBORO

Montreal's OBORO gallery presents Anne Ashton's Tiburón from September 12, 2015 until October 17. Anne Ashton currently teaches painting with the Faculty of Education. The Tiburón installation "deals with the great white shark," reveals OBORO's promotion for the exhibit, "in danger of extinction due to human impact. The artist's intention is not to romanticize or demonize this animal, but rather to emphasize the uniqueness, as well as the primeval and mystifying beauty of this rare species..."

DISE's Veronika Horlik winner of RBC Emerging Artist People's Choice Award

Veronika Horlik, Art Education instructor with our faculty's Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE), has been announced as the recipient of the 2015 RBC Emerging Artist People's Choice Award. The award particularly celebrates the artistic medium of clay. Horlik's winning submission is entitled PROUNS(SLASH), and is a 300-pound ceramic reinterpretation of Japanese video game Katamari Damacy, also drawing inspiration from Horlik's experience with the Canadian reforestation industry.

Richard Lynn Studham: a paragon of chivalry

Richard Lynn Studham, professor emeritus in our Department of Integrated Studies in Education, will be displaying his work A Paragon of Chivalry at Galilee Chapel in Durham, England, this autumn. The exhibit will be shown as part of Durham Cathedral's celebrations of the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta. Founded in 1093, Durham Cathedral -which houses Galilee Chapel, is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
