There is a virus .EXE file being sent in email messages containing the Subject: "RE: A report on radiation contamination of Canada". Messages with this subject are now being quarantined by McGill Anti-Spam system. In addition the virus .exe file is being stripped out. However, all users should be careful never to open any ZIP or EXE files attached to emails from unknown senders.
Throughout the month of September McGill Student email accounts will be migrated from Exchange Server 2003 to Exchange Server 2007. If your mailbox is migrated, you will notice a slight change in the user interface when you access your email, but no loss of functionality. There will be a very brief downtime of approximately 5 minutes during this upgrade.
Students can sell their used textbooks for cash at the McGill Bookstore on Monday to Friday from August 25 to September 12. Buyback hours are from 10am to 5pm. Click on "Cash for Books" at the Bookstore website to see if the Bookstore wants your particular book.
Beginning on Monday, July 21, 2008 the Faculty of Law Career Development Office will be using the myFuture career management system to post job listings for McGill students. Due to a security vulnerability associated with PDF documents on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, McGill is disabling PDF support for BlackBerry users until there is a resolution provided by Research in Motion. Service will be interrupted between 11:00 pm and 12:00 am tonight, July 17, while changes on the BlackBerry server are implemented. For details, see the full announcment.

On Monday, May 12 at 2:28 p.m. Beijing time (6:28 GMT), an 8.0-scale earthquake hit southwestern China's Sichuan Province followed by over 2000 smaller-scale quakes and aftershocks in the same area. Many towns and villages were destroyed and shattered. The earthquakes affected a population of over 10,000,000 in an area that spans more than 100,000 sq. km.
Some in the McGill community may have been affected by the devastating cyclone and earthquake disasters in Asia. McGill wishes to convey its deepest sympathies to any who have lost family or friends in these tragedies and offer our reassurance that we will provide what help we can in these very difficult moments.
NCS will be performing maintenance on the Exchange servers this Saturday morning (May 17) starting at 5:30am. This work is expected to be finished no later than 7:30am. Users will experience two periods of downtime during the maintenance window, lasting a total of between 30-60 minutes.
