Dr. Aliki Thomas has been awarded an RCPSC Royal College strategic grant. At the core of the success of competency-based medical education is the assessment of developmental progress and the identification of potential facilitatorsébarriers that could affect its implementation. As Co-PI, Dr. Thomas and her team will lay the foundation for robust knowledge translation activities that she will aim to pursue in a subsequent study.

Dr. Tania Janaudis-Ferreira is part of a team of investigators to whom CIHR (Project Scheme Competition) has been awarded support to conduct a multi-centric trial to determine whether a supervised home-based exercise program combined with a protein supplementation is beneficial in improving physical function in frail older adults recovering from transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Title of the study: "Protein and Exercise to Reverse Frailty in Older Men and Women undergoing TAVR: The PERFORM-TAVR trial."

Dr. Mindy Levin has been awarded the Jones Salk Research Grant Award by the March of Dimes for her work in helping people recover from acquired brain injuries, and for her important contributions in rehabilitation research and clinical practice. Congratulations from SPOT!

Sincere congratulations to Dr. Eva Kehayia and her team for being awarded a grant from the FRQS - the renewal of CRIR and its ranking (exceptional, exceptional and excellent) comes with an increased budget and a supplement, which is over and above the budget from FRQS. Special mention is also made in the document of dr. Philippe Archambault and Dr. Aliki Thomas as Axis and Theme leaders. Dr. Kehayia is also the recipient of a grant to support "Towards a More Inclusive Québec Society" as Co-PI.

Dr. Sara Saunders, Associate Director of the OT Program at SPOT

…has been named Director of the Occupational Therapy Program, when the term of the current OT Director, Dr. Bernadette Nedelec ends, in Spring 2017.

Dr. Saunders is an occupational therapist whose clinical background involved working with individuals with work disability resulting from a musculoskeletal injury.  She has been the OT Associate Director since 2014.

Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) president-elect, Sarah Marshall, recently opened a new exhibit at McGill’s Maude Abbott Medical Museum. ‘Sparks and Waves: The use of electricity, light and sound in physiotherapy’ explores the history and evolution of these techniques in therapy. The exhibit displays machines housed in the McGill School of Physical and Occupational Therapy during the mid 20th century. The exhibit opened September 28th, and is a permanent exhibit at the Museum.
