Dr. Raphael Lencucha and Co-PI Dr. Nicholas King, associate professor in the McGill Biomedical Ethics Unit of the Department of Social Studies Medicine, have received a Steinberg Fund for Interdisciplinary Global Health Research award. Their project is titled “International Health Regulations Compliance in India: The Politics of Global Health Security.” The Fund aims to help fulfill the vision of the McGill Global Health Programs in ‘addressing health inequities and improving global health through education, research, and partnerships.’

Dr. Marc Roig was awarded a joint REPAR and Heart and Stroke Foundation Canadian Partnership for Stroke Recovery Catalyst Grant (CPSR) for his project titled ‘Promoting Brain Plasticity During Sub-Acute Stroke: The Interactive Role of Exercise and Genotype.’ CPSR catalyst awards are intended to provide seed funding at an early stage to promote innovated and collaborative research in stroke rehabilitation and recovery. Dr. Aliki Thomas has received a grant from the CIHR’s Patient Centered Research Strategy Support Unit. Dr. Thomas will lead her team, which includes SPOT colleagues, Sarah Ahmed, Keiko Shikako-Thomas, Dana Anaby, and André Bussieres, on a project, titled “Développement d’un programme de formation sur les méthodes en transfert des connaissances dans le domaine de la santé” which will culminate with the first ever Knowledge Translation summer school for graduate students and researchers offered in June 2018.

Dr. Annette Majnemer has been awarded the 2017 Pfizer Research Award of Excellence by the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation at a special celebration held at the P.K. Subban Atrium. The award recognizes exceptional work of MCH researchers, as recognized by their peers. Dr. Majnemer’s career accomplishments, such as her many publications and funding support, including the recent CHILD-BRIGHT project funded by the Canadian Strategy for Patient-Orient Research (SPOR).

Dr. Stefanie Blain-Moraes was named by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as a 2017 Young Scientists. The award recognized 55 young scientists under 40 recently at the WEF conference in Dalian, China. The awardees hailed from 38 academic institutions in 18 countries, and all were invited to attend a special Meeting of the New Champions at the conference. Stefanie’s ground breaking research focuses on developing assistive technologies to enhance the assessment of and interaction with individuals who are behaviourally unresponsive.

Sarah C. Marshall, Director’s Academic Associate and PT faculty member at the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy (SPOT), has been elected the 60th President of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA). Her term runs from June 2017 to June 2019. The CPA is a not-for-profit professional association that serves over 14,000 Canadian physiotherapists, physiotherapyassistants, physical rehabilitation therapists and physiotherapy students from across Canada.

Dr. Marie-Hélène Boudrias has been awarded a Brain Canada Foundation grant to support her work in exploring why some people recover better than others after a stroke. This research has shown that recuperative capacity is often underestimated, therefore this work will be crucial in discovering how to better predict rehab potential.
