The School of Physcial & Occupational Therapy plays a cruicial role in the Joint Curriculum Committee at McGill. Since the spring of 2013, the Joint Curriculum Committee for Interprofessional Education has developed three Interprofessional Education courses consisting of 23 IPE learning activities. Dr. Keiko Shikako-Thomas, Assistant Professor at SPOT, has been awarded a Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Childhood Disability: Participation and Knowledge Translation. Read more in the McGill Reporter.
SPOT Faculty members Dr. Keiko Shikako-Thomas (PI) and Dr. Stefanie Blain-Moraes (co-PI) have been awarded a CIHR Planning Grant for the project entitled, “Adaptive-Use Music Technology for children with developmental disabilities”.
Dr. Marie-Hélène Boudrias, Assistant Professor at SPOT, has been awarded funding from the Québec Bio-imaging Network (QBIN) / FRQS – Pilot Project for her project, “Identification of neural substrates underlying neuroplasticity events induced by acute cardiovascular exercise.” The goal of this project is to explore the role of exercise in motor memory consolidation. Dr. Marc Roig is Co-PI.
Dr. Isabelle Gagnon, Assistant Professor at SPOT, has been awarded a CIHR Team Grant to develop the “Canadian Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Research Consortium”. The goal of this new research group is to improve the delivery of health care to Canadians with TBI from coast to coast, and also in a global context, by and with scientists, patients and public health leaders. Dr. Gagnon has also been named Lead on the Trauma Strategic Group, an integral part of REPAR’s Scientific Council / Conseil scientifique.
SPOT Faculty Lecturer Claudia Brown was honored with the Prix d’excellence physiothérapeute 2015 at the annual gathering of the Ordre professionnel de la physiothérapie du Québec. This award formally honors a physiotherapist for the amplitude of their contributions to the advancement of the profession.

Dr. Patrice (Tamar) Weiss became SPOT’s 6th Edith Aston-McCrimmon Lecturer with her talk entitled “Rehabilitation Technologies: Thrive or Dive”. McGill’s Dr. Mindy Levin, Professor in the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy at the Faculty of Medicine and Member of the Integrated Program of Neuroscience at McGill was recently awarded with the 2015 Enid Graham Memorial Lecture Award, the most prestigious award given by the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. Congratulations Dr. Levin!
Dr. Philippe Archambault has been named the recipient of McGill’s Rosemary Wedderburn Brown Faculty Prize, in recognition for his outstanding contributions to rehabilitation science and in acknowledgment of his academic potential in this early phase of his career.
Dr. Matthew Hunt has been awarded the Jonathan Campbell Meakins and Family Memorial Fellowship. This Fellowship is designed to reward and promote excellence in medical education at McGill and beyond.
