1000 Genomes Project publishes analysis of completed pilot phase

Small genetic differences between individuals help explain why some people have a higher risk than others for developing illnesses. The 1000 Genomes Project published the most comprehensive map of these genetic differences, estimated to contain approximately 95 percent of the genetic variation of any person on Earth.

Canadian leads publishing of first results from Large Hadron Collider

Researchers used Einstein's famous E=mc2 equation and the Large Hadron Collider to recreate a miniature version of the event at the origins of our Universe. Dr. Andreas Warburton of McGill's Department of Physics made leading contributions to the analysis of data from the experiment, known as "ATLAS," meaning the findings have a special significance for Canadian science.
