Christopher Kusuhara awarded a Developing Artist grant from Hnatyshyn Foundation

Classical pianist Christopher Kusuhara , a  20-year-old native of Burnaby, BC and a third year Bachelor of Music student studying with Kyoko Hashimoto has been awarded a Developing Artist   grant from the Hnatyshyn Foundation.  The foundation awards grants of 10 000$ to young artists in many disciplines.

Schulich grads named to key roles in the McGill Chamber Orchestra

The Board of Directors and Artistic Director Boris Brott of the McGill Chamber Orchestra (MCO) are pleased to announce two important appointments. Effective immediately, the organization welcomes Taras Kulish as its new Executive Director and Jean-Sébastien Roy as its new concertmaster.

A Governor General Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement for Violinist Andrew Dawes

The violinist Andrew Dawes, (who held the inaugural Catherine Thornhill Steel Chair from September 1, 2006 to April 30, 2007) has been awarded a Governor General's Lifetime Artistic Achievement award. Dawes will receive the award, and a cash prize of $25,000 in a ceremony to be held May 31, 2013 in Ottawa.

Winners of the first edition of the Schulich School of Music's Chamber Music Competition Announced

Two winning groups emerged from the McGill Chamber Music Competition held Tuesday, April 16 in Tanna Schulich Hall.  The jury consisted of Profs. Fewer, Haimovitz, Hashimoto and Kestenberg, and the event was chaired by Prof. McNabney.  Members of the jury remarked on the dedication, excellence and general enthusiasm that all participants demonstrated. Prizes were for  two international exchange trips and  were awarded as follows:    An exchange visit with the Royal Conservatory of the Hague  Dakota Martin, flute

Congratulations to the winners of the Nikki Yanofsky Audio Technica Prize!

Diego Espinosa Cruz Gonzalez (DMus, Percussion) and José Luís Aguirre Galindo (MMus, Sound Recording) have won $10,000 for the realization of a collaborative recording project involving the innovative artistic use of music technology.

Jean-Willy Kunz, DMus 2011, named new Resident Organist of the OSM

Jean-Willy Kunz studied piano and organ at the Conservatory in Grenoble and continued at the Conservatory in Lyon. He studied jazz piano at the Conservatory in Lyon and founded a saxophone and organ duo with Frédéric Lagoutte. He then studied organ and harpsichord with Mireille Lagacé at the Conservatoire de Montréal and completed his doctorate in organ in 2011 at McGill University with John Grew. That year he also won third prize and the Richard-Bradshaw audience prize at the Canadian International Organ Competition in Montreal.
