Patrick Hansen at the Segal Centre this weekend

In advance of the season-opening production of Ain’t Misbehavin’, the musical’s co-creator, Murray Horwitz, will take part in the traditional Sunday @ the Segal on September 29 at 11 a.m. He will be joined by director of opera at McGill University, Patrick Hansen.

From Crane to Schulich: A profile of Master's clarinet student Christine Hoerning

This is Christine’s second year at McGill. She is working towards her Masters in Music in Orchestral Performance and studying with Robert Crowley, who was the principal clarinet of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal. Alongside that, she is a member of the Orchestre Philharmonique Musiciens Etudiants de Montreal, she did work with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, and she’s preparing for an audition with The Albany Symphony in October. Singer Rebecca Dowd named finalist in the 5th Principe Francesco Maria Ruspoli Competition

Rebecca Dowd, student of Annamaria Popescu, has been selected as one of six finalists for the "V International Competition Principe Francesco Maria Ruspoli", which is a competition featuring baroque vocal music. The finals take place October 4-7, 2013. Read more

First Play: Hank Knox, J.S. Bach: Keyboard Works

Schulich School of Music's harpsichordist Hank Knox is on fire this month. He releases an all-J.S. Bach album on the early-music.com label, and then on Sept. 17 he takes his harpsichord on the road for a two-week Home Routes concert tour of northern Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. This, in addition to teaching harpsichord and continuo at McGill University's Schulich School of Music, where he also conducts the McGill Baroque Orchestra.

CBC Names McGill Symphony one of 20 Outstanding Orchestras

CBC music named McGill Symphony opening concert as one of 20 outstanding Canadian orchestral concerts to look for in 2013-14 season. It is the only student orchestra to be included, and joins a who's who of top Canadian professional ensembles. Read more (CBC Music website)

Georgina Born named Schulich Distinguished Visiting Chair for 2013-2015

The Schulich School of Music welcomes Georgina Born, Professor of Music and Anthropology at Oxford University and Professorial Fellow of Mansfield College, to McGill and Montreal. Professor Born will hold the Schulich Distinguished Visiting Chair in Music from 2013 to 2015.

Recent Schulich grads Camille Renaud and Maria Fuller awarded first and second places at the National Music Festival

Congratulations to Camille Renaud, trombone, for winning first place and to Maria Fuller, piano, for winning second place in their respective categories at the National Music Festival. The National Music Festival is organized annually by the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals (www.fcmf.org) and was held  August 7-10 2013 at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo Ontario.
