Finalists for the Conseil québécois de la musique's 21e Prix Opus have officially been announced, and once again the Schulich community is well represented! Established in 1996 to highlight the excellence and diversity of Québec's musical offering, les Prix Opus delivers annually to artists throughout a variety of categories. This year's winners will be announced February 4, 2018 at Salle Bourgie.

After a very exciting final round held on Saturday, December 2nd in Pollack Hall, we are excited to announce that soprano Anna-Sophie Neher is this year’s winner of the Wirth Vocal Prize. Alongside collaborative pianist Esther Gonthier, Anna-Sophie performed works by Mozart, Morlock, Poulenc, Wolf and Rossini to secure the title.

Thanks to an exciting initiative, graduate conducting students at the Schulich School of Music are now eligible to receive a substantial new award – the Hnatyshyn Foundation Christa and Franz-Paul Decker Fellowship in Conducting. Launched at Schulich in September 2017, the $15,000 Fellowship will be awarded to an exceptional Canadian graduate student at Schulich as of the 2018-19 school year.

Violinist Mark Fewer is well-known for his ability to fit seamlessly into a variety of musical situations, from harpsichord duets to Juno-winning jazz albums. This Friday, December 1, Montreal audiences will be able to hear him in yet another setting as he appears as the soloist on Ligeti’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra along with the McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble. We spoke to Fewer in a recent email exchange to learn more about this upcoming performance.
