One hears a lot about balance in politics these days. About finding the right balance between the economy and environmental protections. The right balance between security and civil liberties. The right balance between the rights of victims of crime, and compassion and rehabilitation for the offender. The right balance between tax cuts and government spending, and a balanced budget. It might not take a great deal of cynicism to suggest that after the political calculations have been done, the balance rarely works out to 50-50.

NR Narayana Murthy will receive an honorary doctorate from the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University in Canada on May 28. Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys Ltd, will be acknowledged for his accomplishments in business and dedication to fairer wealth distribution.
