On June 23 a group of McGill Medical students will host YogAuction, an outdoor yoga event and silent auction taking place at McGill’s Percival Molson Stadium between 9:30 a.m. and noon. Funds raised from the event will go directly towards Childhood Cancer Canada (CCC), whose mission is to create victories for Canadian children with cancer through investment in national and collaborative research, educational and community programs.

Dr. David Rosenblatt, Holder, Dodd Q. Chu and Family Chair in Medical Genetics and Professor, Departments of Human Genetics, Medicine, Pediatrics, and Biology at McGill University, has been selected as the 2018 recipient of the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) Founders’ Award for Career Achievement.

On May 24, 2018, Dr. Phil Gold, the Douglas G. Cameron Professor of Medicine and Professor of Physiology and Oncology at McGill University received an honorary doctorate from Queen’s University. The degree was conferred during the afternoon convocation ceremony which brought together graduates from the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing.

On May 31, Dr. Claire Trottier, an Academic Associate working as an Education Specialist at McGill University’s Department of Microbiology and Immunology was presented with the SALTISE (Supporting Active Learning & Technological Innovation in Studies of Education) Best Practices & Pedagogical Innovators Award during the seventh SALTISE conference, an event hosted at McGill which brought together over 300 educators from across 55 post-secondary institutions in Québec and Canada.

The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and McGill University Faculty of Medicine are proud to announce that Dr. Pramod Puligandla has been elected to the Pediatric Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery. Over the next six years, he will participate in defining and setting the standards for certifying specialists in pediatric surgery across North America. He is also the first pediatric surgeon from Canada to ever be elected to this position.

Dr. Claudio Cuello, Professor and inaugural Charles E. Frosst/Merck endowed Chair in Pharmacology at McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine is among a group of 48 leading biomedical and health scientists whose work is being recognized with election to the prestigious British Academy of Medical Sciences, announced on May 10.  The new Fellows have been elected for their outstanding contributions to biomedical and health science, leading research discoveries, and translating developments into benefits for patients and the wider society.

With a passion for fundraising and volunteering, in 2014 Olivia Monton created her own foundation, known as Live for the Cause, to support local and grassroots charitable organizations in Montreal. For someone with Parkinson’s disease (PD), the simple desire to grasp a glass of water can become an insurmountable task, made impossible by the tremors in their hand or arm. Finding strategies to improve these movement impairments is one of the major goals of rehabilitating people with Parkinson’s disease.

At McGill University, Dr. Marc Roig, an assistant professor in the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy (SPOT), is studying the effects of using high-intensity exercise to stimulate the brain’s ability to learn and change with repeated experiences.

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the University of California, Berkeley’s (UCB) School of Public Health (SPH), the School compiled a list of their 75 most influential alumni. Included among the impressive list of luminaries was Dr. Madhukar Pai, Director of McGill Global Health Programs. On April 21, Dr. Pai traveled to Berkeley to formally accept this honour as part of the official celebrations.
