Web of Science: intermittent problems

Thomson Scientific technicians are working on access problems with Web of Science. The problems seem to affect only some customers. As yet there is no indication when these problems will be resolved.

Sept. 21: Closure of computer/study area in McLennan Library Bldg

On Thursday, September 21, the computer and study area (former Reference area) on Level 1 (main floor) of the McLennan Library Building will be closed due to construction work. Additional computers as well as group and individual study areas are available.

ProQuest scheduled maintenance, September 30

The next ProQuest platform enhancement release will be on September 30. A twelve (12) hour maintenance window will take place to install the new enhancements. The window will begin Saturday, September 30, at 22:00 EDT and continue to Sunday, October 1, at 10:00 EDT.

CINAHL and ERIC no longer available via Ovid

CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) and ERIC (Education Resources Information Database) are no longer available via the Ovid platform. Please refer to the Library Catalogue or use Article Indexes and Databases to connect to these resources.

Royal Society journals now available online back to 1665

Nearly 350 years of scientific publishing is now available online via the Royal Society (UK) Journals Digital Archive. The Archive includes significant publications by "Bohr, Boyle, Bragg, Cajal, Cavendish, Chandrasekhar, Crick, Dalton, Darwin, Davy, Dirac, Faraday, Fermi, Fleming, Florey, Fox Talbot, Franklin, Halley, Hawking, Heisenberg, Herschel, Hodgkin, Hooke, Huxley, Joule, Kelvin, Krebs, Liebnitz, Linnaeus, Lister, Mantell, Marconi, Maxwell, Newton, Pauling, Pavlov, Pepys, Priestley, Raman, Rutherford, Schrodinger, Turing, van Leeuwenhoek, Volta, Watt, Wren and many, many more."

Macdonald Campus Library: Partial opening

On Monday, September 11, Macdonald Campus Library reopened Level 3 of the Barton Building. Access is through the old library entrance on Level 1 of the Barton Building. The entire print journal collection and books from call numbers T to Z are available for consultation and loan. Materials placed on reserve for classes are also available on Level 3. Twelve public computers, two photocopiers and a public printer will be available for all to use.

Headphones and laptop locks now available at the Humanities and Social Sciences Library

Lending & Access Services is now providing headphones at the Loans desk in the Humanities and Social Sciences Library. You can use them to listen to CDs or DVDs on the computers in the library. Our Dell computers have DVD players on them, so they can be used as viewing stations. The loan period is 2 days. We are also making laptop locks available. These allow you to attach the lock to your laptop
