Downtime for Colombo ILL on Tuesday, July 26, 2016

Due to scheduled work on McGill's Colombo ILL system, involving a technical migration required by the vendor (OCLC), there will be some downtime on the morning of Tuesday, July 26, 2016. The migration is scheduled to begin at 8am and should be completed before noon.

OverDrive: new sign-in using McGill username coming July 14

New for McGill students, faculty, staff and alumni: Starting Thursday, July 14, 2016, you will be able to use your McGill username and password to sign into OverDrive to access e-books and e-audiobooks.

Baroque Concert at the Osler Library of the History of Medicine

On Saturday, June 25 at 2:00 p.m., the Osler Library of the History of Medicine will host a concert featuring Vincent Lauzer as part of the 14th annual Baroque Festival. The concert will showcase works for recorder by young Quebec composers with Baroque influences. RESOLVED: Issues with print holdings in the McGill WorldCat catalogue

Update, June 14, 2016: Technical issues with the display of the physical holdings in the McGill WorldCat catalogue have been resolved. Call numbers, locations and loan information should now display correctly for print items held by the Library.

Summer shifting project at Schulich Library of Science and Engineering

Schulich Library of Science and Engineering is undergoing a major summer shifting project. We are currently shifting our collection in order to provide more study space on the fourth and fifth floors. We will be shipping over 55,000 titles to our storage facility at the Currie Gym.

Symposium: Celebrating Voltaire/ Célébrer Voltaire, March 9, 2016

La version française suit Voltaire was a celebrity and a figure of controversy in the 18th century. Famous for his wit and his advocacy of civil liberties, he remains the subject of much debate and discussion in the 21st century.  On March 9, 2016, the McGill University Library and Archives welcomed a group of local and international scholars for a one-day symposium “Celebrating Voltaire”. The McGill Library's Islamic Lithographs digital Collection is now live

The Islamic Studies Library Collections at McGill University include over 750 lithographed volumes printed in the second half of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century in the Middle East (Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Turkey), North Africa (Morocco), and South Asia (India, Pakistan).

Michele Larose - Osler Library Artist-in-Residence Programme is now accepting submissions

La version française suit Value: $6,000 Application Deadline: June 1, 2016. Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Michele Larose, artist and paediatric neuropsychiatrist who trained in psychiatry and child psychiatry at McGill and in visual arts at Curtin University in Australia, the Osler Library of the History of Medicine has established an artist-in-residence programme.

The McGill Library and Archives launched its new Research Commons with a day of interactive demos

March 30, 2016 was the official launch of the new Research Commons, a technology-enhanced, collaborative space that brings together services and resources to support researchers. The launch included demonstrations of the 3D printers, presentations of the video wall and opportunities to try out the virtual reality headset. Important message about security and public computers

It recently came to light that keylogger devices, used to log every key pressed on a keyboard, were found on some public computers at Concordia University. These devices put the privacy and security of user information at risk. McGill’s IT Services has since inspected McGill’s public computers and no keyloggers were found. IT Services does regular checks to ensure the safety of McGill’s public computers and are asking users to be vigilant as well.
