Poster Contest for Law Students to mark Crépeau Centre's 40th anniversary!

To encourage innovation and stimulate interest in research among law students at faculties of Quebec civil law, the Paul-André Crépeau Center for Private and Comparative Law is launching a student poster contest. The contest is linked to the conference that will mark, on 12 February 2016, the Crépeau Centre’s 40th anniversary, during which poster submissions will be displayed and the  winners announced.

Professor René Provost receives research fellowship from the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation

The Faculty of Law is proud to announce that Professor René Provost has been awarded a research fellowship by the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation. This prestigious prize, which is valued at $225,000, recognizes public intellectuals in the humanities and social sciences who venture beyond the boundaries of their disciplines to find new solutions to complex issues of major importance to Canadians. René Provost is the fourth Trudeau Fellow from McGill’s Faculty of Law.

François Crépeau takes up directorship of Centre for Human Rights

This August, Professor François Crépeau took over the mandate of Director of the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism (CHRLP) from Professor Colleen Sheppard. François Crépeau is United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants. He holds the Hans & Tamar Oppenheimer Chair in Public International Law at the Faculty of Law, where he teaches Migration Law, Immigration and Refugee Law, and Constitutional Law. He became a member of the Royal Society of Canada in 2012.

Richard Gold appointed Associate Dean (Graduate Studies)

We are pleased to announce that Professor Richard Gold has accepted to serve the Faculty as Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) for a three-year term which started on September 1st, 2015. A James McGill Professor, Richard Gold was the founding Director of the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy. He teaches in the area of intellectual property, international intellectual property, comparative intellectual property, innovation policy and intellectual property management. His research generally focuses on the life sciences.

Professor Angela Campbell appointed Associate Provost of McGill

Professor Angela Campbell was recently appointed Associate Provost (Policies, Procedures and Equity) (APPPE). She will step into the role on September 1. The APPPE is one of two Associate Provosts assisting Provost Christopher Manfredi in top-level academic governance at McGill.

Vrinda Narain and Paul Miller promoted to Associate Professor

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Vrinda Narain and Paul Miller have each been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. When he shared the news, Dean Daniel Jutras indicated how “this is wonderful news, which underscores the excellence of their work and the quality of their contributions to the intellectual life of the Faculty, the University and the various communities to which we belong. Martti Koskenniemi to receive LL.D. at upcoming Law spring convocation ceremony

McGill University has announced the 16 recipients of honorary doctorates for the upcoming spring convocation. Among them is Professor Martti Koskenniemi, who will be awarded the LL.D. distinction during the Faculty of Law’s convocation ceremony on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at 2 pm.
