12:15PM - myCourses is now fully accessible. --------------------------------------------- The myCourses Learning Management System is currently inaccessible for many users. Users may be unable to access the system or navigation may be slow. The system provider is looking into the issue; we apologize for any inconvenience this causes.
Currently a phishing email is circulating, which appears to invite the recipient to participate in an anonymous survey about experiences with McGill University.
We have resolved the enrolment issues in myCourses and expect course enrolments from this week to be completely synced by this evening. Due to the start of the semester, please allow some time for your enrolment to be transferred into myCourses. If, however, your course does not appear in myCourses by Tuesday, September 8, please email the IT Service Desk at itsupport [at] mcgill [dot] ca and provide your enrolment time in Minerva and course information. We apologize for any inconvenience.
IT Services is happy to announce that we have completed the migration of all student and alumni mailboxes to Microsoft Office 365 (with the exception of a few special cases). Note that the URL for Outlook Web App is different on Office 365; for this reason, we now have two separate links on the McGill Quick Links menubar -- the pinnable bar at the top of all www.mcgill.ca web pages (see image):
The latest versions of McGill-provided FREE antivirus software, Trend Micro Internet Security 10 for Windows & Antivirus for Mac 2016 are now available. If your personal computer/laptop isn’t already protected by antivirus software (or you’re using an older version), we urge you to install one of the new versions without delay! All McGill University full-time faculty, staff, and students can download and install Trend Micro antivirus software for use on their personal computers.
If your student/alumni McGill email account was recently migrated to the Microsoft Office 365 service, and you did not reconfigure your Mac Mail client, an "Unable to Connect" popup may appear. If you see the popup, please do one of the following:
Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 10, will be publically available on July 29th. Since Microsoft is offering it free of charge for many users, and it includes several significant improvements, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding its release. This new version of Windows sees fundamental change to its look and feel, in addition to what’s under the hood. One of these changes includes the upgrade process itself, which is now simpler than ever. Early adopters of Windows 10 can upgrade from Windows 7 or 8 almost as easily as installing monthly Windows updates.
uPrint, McGill’s university-wide printing service is available throughout McGill and has demonstrated that it is a cost-effective, sustainable solution for managing the majority of McGill’s printing needs. To further streamline operations and maintenance costs associated with printing, we are now looking to reduce the number of individual printing devices, which are installed by departments in various offices and are not part of the uPrint network.
Did you know that many smartdevice applications are reliant on third party cloud services? While many of these services appear to be secure, it is important to note some of the dangers of using them. As an example, in order to integrate your McGill account (mail, calendar, etc.), many online mail clients or account aggregators will store your McGill password on their servers.
As of Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at approximately noon, when you sign into McGill's OneDrive for Business or other Office 365 applications (via https://portal.office.com or https://outlook.com/mcgill.ca) you will notice a new sign-in page, instead of the small pop-up authentication window. This change is being done now in anticipation of migrating the first batch of student and alumni email mailboxes to the Office 365 platform next week. Hope you enjoy the new look & feel!
McGill's Procurement Services, in conjunction with IT Services and Facilities Management and Ancillary Services, has introduced a new IT Asset Management Regulation, which aims to direct the University toward the sound management, longevity and optimization of IT Assets. The regulation, now in effect, covers activities from the initial procurement of IT equipment, to usage and reuse criteria, through end of life management.
A phishing attempt is circulating with the subject line "Outlook/Login-Mail". The message says that some incoming emails are blocked, and that you need to unlock them. A sample of the email is shown below.
