A phishing attempt is circulating with the subject line "Subject: Dear mcgill.ca Email User". The message says that we are updating our email database due to upcoming firewall upgrade and that you need to revalidate your email account to avoid it being deleted. A sample of the email is shown below. Please DO NOT click on the link. Delete this email immediately! It does NOT come from a McGill source. It is a fraudulent attempt to gain access to your personal information. McGill never solicits any such information by email.
A phishing attempt is circulating with the subject line "Outlook/Login-Mail". The message says that some incoming emails are blocked, and that you need to unlock them. A sample of the email is shown below.
A phishing attempt is circulating with the subject line "Subject: Your Account will be Temporary Suspended". The message says that your mailbox is running out of data storage and will be suspended, and asks you to log on to a fraudulent website to upgrade / add more data space. Update - 11:55am The issue has been resolved. If you experienced the issue, you will need to close and then reopen your browser. ---------------------------------------- Some users cannot log in to Banner (INB). When attempting to do so, they get an "Ora-12154 TNS Error" error message that asks them to close down their Java Client and try again. If you experience the issue, please close your Banner window and browser, wait a minute or two, then try again. IT Services is investigating; we apologize for the inconvenience.

A phishing attempt is circulating with the subject line "RE: Faculty/Staff/ Student". The message says that your mail settings are out of date and asks you to log on to a fraudulent website to update your mailbox. A sample of the email is shown below.
No one can deny that cloud services offer the most affordable solution for file storage. Never before has our consumption of video and audio been higher and we seem to have an insatiable need for more space. The packrats among us are no doubt thrilled about the virtually limitless and often free space provided by the cloud -- it's like having a spare room in a magic dimension that lets you keep a much as you like without seeing the mess.
Periodically, there is a delay in delivering mail from McGill to Videotron, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, and Sympatico email addresses. This mainly occurs when sending a large number of emails (several hundred and up) at once as part of a McGill mailing list (such as a LISTSERV). IT Services is investigating the issue. Further updates will be posted here.
McGill IT Services will soon begin moving all McGill Exchange mailboxes to the Microsoft Office 365 cloud service, which provides 50 GB of email storage space online. The migration of student and alumni mailboxes will be completed over a period of approximately seven months, starting with the first batch of students in June. Faculty and staff mailboxes will be migrated once the student and alumni migrations are complete. If you are eager to have your student mailbox moved over, see the note below on early migration.
Recently, Microsoft released Skype for Business to replace Lync. This new version of Skype is a hybrid of the Lync client that you use here at McGill, and the Skype client you may use at home. IT Services will be deploying the new client to supported McGill faculty & staff users starting on May 13. It will include:
The Staff Directory (www.mcgill.ca/directory/staff) is a service provided to the McGill community and managed by IT Services. In the past, Telephone Coordinators were solely responsible for submitting revisions to the listing.
McGill staff members can now create up to 20 Guest accounts at a time by using the self-service Guest Network Account Creation form. These accounts provide up to 30 days of wireless and/or McGill Network access (if the guest needs access to resources on the McGill network, departmental shares, etc.).
As of March 30, 2015, all faculty and staff have access to Microsoft OneDrive for Business, providing 1 Terabyte of FREE file space on which to store both non-work related files and some* work-related files.
