RESOLVED: Problem with anti-spam system causing delays in email

Update - Wednesday, Sept. 28. 2016: The problem described below was resolved of 10:15 today. Email delivery is back to normal. Original announcement: There is currently a problem with McGill’s anti-spam system, which is causing delays in processing incoming messages from outside McGill.

There is a phishing email circulating with content relating to compromised accounts. The message requests that the recipient click on a link to verify and upgrade their account.

Phishing scam with multiple subjects: "Important E-Mail Notification" & "Help Desk"

There are multiple phishing emails circulating from the same sender, with content relating to McGill account access. The email subjects are "Important E-Mail Notification" and "Help Desk". The messages in both instances request that the recipient click on a link to renew their account.

There is a phishing email circulating to users. It advises users that their mailboxes are full and that they must visit a fraudulent website in order to obtain more space and be able to continue to send and receive emails.

Issues accessing McGill websites (www.mcgill.ca/..)

Dues to heavy traffic, when trying to access McGill websites, you may find that pages load slowly, don't load completely, or get a "mcgill.ca is over capacity" error message. IT Services is investigating the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience.

IT Security Reminder: Log off after using computers on campus

With the beginning of the Fall 2016 semester upon us, McGill IT Services would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of logging off from your Windows session on all campus computers, including podium PCs used during teaching sessions. Leaving a computer with your personal Windows session open can allow subsequent users to access your McGill personal network storage (e.g. your P: or R: drive) and to open and send email messages from your McGill email account using the Outlook application on that computer.

Apple issues critical security patches for iOS

Apple has released a software update (iOS 9.3.5) which addresses several critical security vulnerabilities in iOS (iPhones, iPads, etc.). These vulnerabilities have been actively exploited allowing for remote installation of malware. IT Services strongly recommends the installation of the latest patches to prevent a potential compromise.
