The Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism is pleased to announce the addition of a new opportunity to the International Judicial Clerkship Program.

Established in 2019 by the Honourable Morris J. Fish, former justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, the Hon. Morris J. Fish Clerkship Award will enable one current McGill BCL/JD student, or recent graduate, each year to partially fund their clerkship at the Supreme Court of Israel. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor René Provost, Ad. E., has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC). Professor Provost is one of nine McGill scholars to be named as RSC Fellows. Their induction will take place on November 22. Established in 1883, the RSC numbers more than 2,400 Fellows, selected by their peers for outstanding contributions to the natural and social sciences, arts, and humanities.

The O’Brien Graduate Fellowships were established in 2005 through a very generous gift from David O’Brien for outstanding Masters or Doctoral students studying in the area of human rights and legal pluralism in the Faculty of Law, McGill University. McGill’s graduate programs in law are the most extensive in Canada. Courses draw upon the civilian and common law traditions, but also include diverse legal traditions, legal theory, international law, environmental law, health law, human rights law, comparative private and public law, and air and space law.

On March 25, 2019, the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism of McGill University was pleased to award German-Turkish journalist and producer Deniz Yücel the Robert S. Litvack Award, who accepted it on behalf of all threatened and silenced Turkish voices. The award was presented to Mr. Yücel by Gabriela Siegel and Sylvia Litvack, respectively grand-daughter and widow of Robert Litvack.

The Faculty of Law’s Sustainability Committee is a new entity, created in response to student demand, building on impressive groundwork by members of a student-led committee. The committee fosters sustainability initiatives at the Faculty, and promotes the Faculty’s engagement in sustainability at McGill. We work closely with the McGill Office of Sustainability.

Our objective for our first year in existence is to design and implement a green strategy for the Faculty.
