SPARC-organized contest offering $1 000 prize for best student video

The Second Annual Sparky Awards, organized by SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition), offer a cash prize of $1,000 for the best new short video that portrays the benefits of the open, legal exchange of information. Database trial: Electronic Enlightenment

McGill users now have trial access to The Electronic Enlightenment, a new digital resource from Oxford. EE offers online access to the correspondence of nearly 6000 writers including Addison, Bentham, Boswell, Defoe, Hobbes, Hume, Kant, Locke, Pope, Rousseau, Smith, Swift, Sterne, and Voltaire.

Renovations in the Redpath Library Building: Access via McLennan Bldg, Aug. 28-29

Renovations begin May 3 in Redpath Library Building, street level

New database: ProQuest House of Commons Parliamentary Papers 19th and 20th Centuries

Between 1801 and 2000, around 9.5 million pages for over 184,000 parliamentary papers were published. Since 2001, the number of papers has grown by approximately 4,000 for each parliamentary session. HCPP delivers searchable full text for each paper, along with a detailed subject index.

Jan. 28: Temporary closure of computer zone in McLennan Library Bldg

On Sunday, January 28, an event has been scheduled for Open House 2007. The computer zone on Level 1 (main floor) of the McLennan Library Building will not be accessible from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. Additional computers and group and individual study areas are available elsewhere in the McLennan and Redpath buildings, as well as in other branch libraries on campus. Remodelling 2nd floor of McLennan Library Bldg, Humanities & Social Sciences Library

We are doing remodelling work on the 2nd floor of the McLennan Library Building (Humanities & Social Sciences Library) to increase the number of shelves. We are also adding more group study rooms on this floor, to meet student requests for this space. There may be limited access to the 2nd floor during this project from 9 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1, through the weekend. Thanks for your patience during this improvement.
