If you are a member of the Supplemental Health and/or Dental Plans and have incurred any health and/or dental expenses for the period from January 1 to December 31, 2004, you have until March 31, 2005 to submit your claims to Manulife Financial for reimbursement.
On April 28, 2004, a merger agreement between Manulife Financial Corporation and John Hancock Financial Services Inc. was completed. In Canada, this merger meant that Maritime Life - a subsidiary of John Hancock Financial Services - became part of the Manulife Group of Companies. This merger has not affected the administration of our Health and Dental Plans. The benefits you currently enjoy, plus the plan improvements introduced in January 2005, have not changed. The plan contract number is still 7257. However, starting early in 2005, you will begin to see – and hear – signs that Manulife Financial and Maritime Life are becoming a single, combined organization.
A new function for POPS users has been added to the Minerva Appointment system: users can now perform FOAPAL maintenance for Academic Student contracts in Minerva. This function will be made available to Academic Student POPS users (unrestricted only) after training. To receive access, users must sign into Minerva and sign up for the HRIS 246 course, and then fax in their access request form to 8287. This will be phased in gradually over the next few months as users sign up for training.
The Staff Development winter calendar is now available! New and ongoing courses are included and further announcements may be made as the term progresses. Thank you for your enthusiasm, involvement and thoughtful feedback; a few adjustments have been made in response to your comments.
The Benefits Office is pleased to announce that the improvements and additions to both the Health and Dental Plans will be effective January 1, 2005. Rates for the Supplemental Health, Dental and LTD plans will increase slightly, but Group Life Insurance rates will remain the same in 2005. Read our HR Note for more information.
