SEU and the University sign off on two more articles

The parties met on September 18. They reviewed and discussed the university’s proposed text relating to the scheduling of days of rest and the days on which holidays are taken for employees working on special shifts. A final version of the text was prepared and the parties signed off on the relevant articles.

Bargaining resumes with SEU

After a pause in negotiations during the summer, the parties resumed negotiations on September 11 with both sides’ full committees present at the table.  The university submitted the text of a new definition for the possible duration of assignments on special projects.

More agreements in talks with SEU

At the June 12 bargaining session, the parties reached an agreement on the job posting process, more specifically the effective date of appointment and payment of new rates. This point, applicable to the three collective agreements, is now settled.

Principal’s Awards for administrative and support staff

Now is the time to start thinking about submitting nominations to the Principal’s Awards for Administrative and Support Staff for 2012-2013.   Colleagues can present nominees in six categories – customer service, quality of work, initiative/innovation, service to the community, teamwork and sustainability – for work carried out between June 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013.

Articles ratified by both parties in SEU talks

At the May 29 bargaining session, the university submitted the revised article on proposed working hours, applicable to Food and Dining Services.  The university also submitted for review a joint statement of intent relating to the staffing organization in Food and Dining Services.  Both documents were ratified by the parties.

Some progress in talks with SEU

At the May 23 bargaining session, the parties signed off on changes to the article relating to the relocation procedure when a position is abolished, proposed by the university in earlier sessions. The article on proposed working hours in Food and Dining Services was discussed in detail with both parties expressing their objectives and concerns.

AGSEM invigilators (Unit 2) ratify tentative agreement

AGSEM invigilators voted by more than 90% in favour of ratifying the agreement in principle presented to them at a general assembly held on May 15.  The parties are now in the process of finalizing the wording of the collective agreement in both languages. The final version of the two-year contract should be signed in June.  This will be the invigilators’ first collective agreement.

Three proposals discussed at meeting with SEU

At the May 7 bargaining session, the university presented three different proposals for the union to review.  The first document pertains to changes in working hours and the union’s concerns relating to shift changes.  The second proposal covers the duration and working hours in Food and Dining Services which led to discussions, clarifications and a review of the change in scope.

Tentative agreement reached with AGSEM invigilators

On May 2nd the University signed a tentative agreement with AGSEM invigilators on all items remaining to be negotiated. It was signed in the presence of the government-appointed arbitrator who has been involved in these negotiations since the fall of 2012.

Talks with SEU remain positive

At the April 23 bargaining session, the university submitted its proposed plan concerning the scheduling of resources in food and dining services.  The union examined the proposal and made suggestions leading to an agreement, which the university will present for ratification at the next meeting, scheduled for May 7.

More progress in talks with SEU

At the April 17 bargaining session, the parties ratified the clause covering the number of refusals before having facilities management employees’ names withdrawn from the overtime list. The union suggested some language changes that will be integrated in the next draft.

Articles ratified in talks with SEU

At the April 5th bargaining session, the parties ratified articles relating to employee changes and definition of terms. The procedure to be followed when an employee returns to his or her assignment of origin was clarified and the definition of additional hours is now included in the definitions.
