Despite the cold, blowing rain, hundreds of MUNACA members turned up at the Roddick Gates on October 21 to express their displeasure with the administration's position on contract negotiation. Chanting slogans and wielding placards, the demonstrators marched from the gates to demonstrate in front of the James Administration building. MUNACA represents 1,500 clerical and technical staff, library assistants and nurses. The university is asking staff to work more hours and has proposed eliminating some paid holidays.
The Blackader-Lauterman Library of Architecture and Art has received outstanding collections of books from the estates of two emeritus professors from the School of Architecture. The Norbert Schoenauer Collection has 1,500 books and the John Bland collection has close to 1,000 architecture books.
The Department of Human Resources offers a wide range of training opportunities for staff, including workshops on Leadership & Coaching, Customer Focus, and French Conversation at Work.
Performance Dialogue is the name chosen to describe McGill's new performance management process, a partnership between supervisors and staff members which involves feedback and coaching. Workshops are ongoing, and interim guidelines are available.
