The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) is funding nine new Strategic Research Networks that support the research priority areas identified in the Government of Canada’s Science and Technology (S&T) Strategy. Two of these initiatives are based at McGill: the Healthcare Support through Information Technology Enhancements (hSITE) and the Canadian Seismic Research Network.
Fifteen young PhD students received $2.7 million worth of scholarships from the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation on May 20, 2009. Amongst the recipients is David Theodore, until recently a research associate and third-year studio design teacher at the School, and currently a Ph.D. student at Harvard undertaking a double doctorate in Architecture and Urban Planning.
Eleven exceptional individuals will be recognized with honorary degrees from McGill University during this year’s spring convocation ceremonies.
Six students from the School of Architecture (Justin Boulanger, Ann Rodgers, Jessica Dan, Hamza Alhbian, David Dworkind and Andrew Hruby) have won three of the top five awards for creating new home designs in devastated areas of New Orleans. The original concepts were judged on originality, innovation and sustainability, among other criteria, in the Billes Architecture Student Design Competition.

The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) has announced it has awarded $1,147,175 to McGill University to support seven research projects in areas as diverse as hybrid nanostructures, photonic systems, chronic pain and cancer, among others.
