Quebec's Education Minister, Bernard Drainville, has been in the media lately, discussing plans to address the province's teacher shortage. Global News approached McGill's Faculty of Education for comment on Minister Drainville's ideas, including fast-tracking teachers:

Dr. Lisa Starr, chair of the department of integrated studies in education at McGill University agreed that the teacher shortage needs to be fixed but not at any cost.

Gerard Lewis, a graduate of McGill's Concurrent B.Ed. and B.Sc. Mathematics (Class of 2004) was recently awarded Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence for igniting the love of learning. Dr. Marie-Claude Geoffroy (Educational and Counselling Psychology) is a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair known for her longitudinal research on youth suicide and for testing mental health promotion intervention. Dr. Marie-Claude Geoffroy's lab is looking for participants for the Walking for Wellbeing Research Project.
Participation entails three 45-minute walks per week (in downtown Montreal) for a total of 4 weeks, with weekly online questionnaires. Participants must be: currently registered as McGill students; aged 18-25; fluent in English; and owning a working smartphone with a data usage plan.
The DAIR Team at McGill University is looking for School/Applied Child Psychology students or McGill students who have had experience in providing adolescents with online mental health resources. They are looking for students who can assist in evaluating a tool created for school mental health professionals to use when evaluating online mental health resources for adolescents.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former McGill Kinesiology and Physical Education Department Chair, Douglas Riley. Native from St. John, New Brunswick, he passed away on June 8, 2022 at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax at 90 years old.
Douglas was a physical education teacher at Three Rivers High School in the 1950s and went on to serve for 25 years as a professor for the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education at McGill University and as Chair of the department.
Dr. Ian P. Levy, Dr. Michael Lipset and Mr. Timothy Jones invite you to participate in a research study that they are conducting. The purpose of this study is to assess the abilities of school counselors to identify ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors in the language of youth; i.e. Hip-Hop. Enclosed is a fun and interactive survey wherein you will be asked to listen to a student's song and assess the degree to which, if at all, a variety of educational mindsets and behaviors are present.
