On April 24, 2009, the Québec Society of Comparative Law (AQDC) held its annual symposium at McGill’s Faculty of Law. Part of the proceedings included announcing the winners of the AQDC’s 2008-2009 writing contest for undergraduate and graduate students, who this year turned to be two McGill Law students.
On April 15, 2009, the Fonds de recherche sur la société et la culture (FQRSC) announced its funding decisions for 2009. Among them, a research team attached to the Faculty of Law’s Quebec Research Centre of Private & Comparative Law (QRCPCL) secured a grant of over $400,000 over the next four years for their research project, 'Vers une nouvelle juridicité québécoise'.
Rose Grogan, Samatha Jones and Andrea Sanche, three LL.M. students of the Institute of Comparative Law, attended the "Global Generations Conference: Human Rights and Health Law at a Crossroad" conference at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law on February 13, 2009. Each student delivered a paper at the conference.
Law graduate Stephen G. Schenke, BCL, LLB (1989), a partner at McCarthy Tétrault’s office in Montreal, was sworn in on May 7, 2008 as the Bâtonnier of the Bar of Montreal.
The Faculty of Law's Transsystemic Program has been selected as a recipient of the "Outstanding Program in International Education Award" by the Canadian Bureau for International Education. This prestigious professional award recognizes innovative programs in international education developed to meet long-term internationalization goals and needs, and that offer best-practice models that can be transferred to other institutions.
Professor Frédéric Bachand has been awarded the 2006 Walter Owen Book Prize recognizing excellent legal writing and rewarding outstanding new contributions to Canadian legal literature for his book "L'intervention du juge canadien avant et durant un arbitrage commercial."
