Filmed over nearly three years\, this film follows reno wned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world's largest garbage dump\, Jardim Gramacho\, lo cated on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of “catadores”—self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. Muni z’s initial objective was to “paint” the catadores with garbage. However\, his collaboration with these inspiring characters as they recreate photog raphic images of themselves out of garbage reveals both the dignity and de spair of the catadores as they begin to re-imagine their lives.\n DTSTART:20140706T190000Z DTEND:20140706T210000Z LOCATION:auditorium\, Redpath Museum\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0C4\, 859 r ue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Documentary film: Waste Land URL:https://www.mcgill.ca/channels/channels/event/documentary-film-waste-la nd-231916 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
