Your McGill ID card

Like your American Express card, don't leave home without it.

As more and more McGill University services become automated, your McGill ID card becomes increasingly necessary to access those services. This includes security.

More and more buildings, areas and rooms are acquiring access card readers.

A proximity card becomes necessary to gain entrance, especially during silent hours. Your McGill ID card, programmed with the proper access rights, becomes that proximity card.

A McGill ID card distinguishes you immediately as a member of the McGill community, enabling McGill Security Services to provide you with quicker and more efficient assistance.

If you require access to a building or an area during silent hours, it must first be authorized by the building director and the department concerned. Area access managers have been appointed for various faculties and departments.

Consult www.mcgill.ca/security/access/list for the area access manager for your location.

If your McGill ID card does not work, it may have become demagnetized, or your appointment, contract or student status has become inactive. Staff members should consult Human Resources, and students should contact the ID Centre.

If you lose your card, contact Security Services (514-398-3000) immediately. We will put your card on lost mode and prevent anyone else from using your access privileges.

Remember: Never lend your card to anyone.
