Web Management System upgrade coming Fall 2013 - Spring 2014
McGill IT Services introduced the Drupal-based Web Management System (WMS) about 2 ½ years ago, giving us a cleaner, more modern and better structured system to support our 650+ websites.
Over the next few months we will be upgrading the software that runs our websites to Drupal version 7 so we can benefit from advances made by the Drupal open source community. These include improvements to file and image management, slideshows and galleries, webforms and restricted pages.
What is the scope of this project?
Our development team will be focused on upgrading the software and maintaining existing functionality. We look forward to making further enhancements to the WMS once the upgrade is completed.
When will sites be upgraded?
Sites will be scheduled to move to Drupal 7 in batches starting in December and continuing throughout the spring of 2014. Site managers will be notified in advance, giving them an opportunity to validate the upgraded site before it is put into production.
What training resources will be available to site editors and managers?
Documentation for new procedures and features will be added to the IT Knowledge Base. Instructor-led courses and self-serve videos will also be provided to ease the transition.
Over the coming months, we will also be sending out targeted announcements to site managers and editors regarding the progress of the upgrade and other important information.
