Skulsky, Bettez named McGill athletes of the week

Published: 9 November 2009

OTTAWA - Samuel Skulsky of Calgary and Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-Iles, Que, are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 8, 2009.

Skulsky, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound scrum-half with the rugby team, accounted for 12 points with a pair of tries and one conversion as McGill routed Bishop's 55-7 to cap an undefeated season and coast to their fourth consecutive Quebec university championship at Molson Stadium, Saturday. The 18-year-old science sophomore is a product of St. Michael's University School.

Bettez, a 22-year-old management junior who skates for the women's hockey team, scored three goals in two weekend victories over Montreal and Ottawa, that allowed the Martlets to extend their CIS win streak to 60 consecutive games. The speedy, 5-foot-4 forward scored at 39 seconds of sudden-death overtime in a 3-2 conquest over the No.10-ranked Carabins on Saturday, then added a pair in Sunday's 6-1 victory at Ottawa. She previously played for Dawson College before joining the Martlets in 2007.
