MONTREAL -- McGill freshman Jonathan Collin has been named as offensive player of the week in the Quebec University Football League, for the period ending Sept. 13, 2009.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound quarterback from Greenfield Park, Que., rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another as McGill snapped a conference record 17-game losing streak with a surprising 29-11 home-field victory over Sherbrooke last Friday. Collin, a 20-year-old education major became only the fifth true freshman ever to start at quarterback for the Redmen. He completed 21 of 34 passes for 177 yards, one TD and one interception. He also carried five times for 21 yards and directed an attack that generated 436 yards of net offence.

The other QUFL players of the week were Laval's Olivier Turcotte-Letourneau on defence (8.5 tackles, one forced fumble, one blocked convert attempt) and Montreal's Frank Bruno on special teams (8 punt returns for 214 yards, including a 94-yard TD romp).
