Published: 31 October 2011

MONTREAL -- Jessica Porfilio of Longueuil, Que., and Andrew Wright of Toronto are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Oct. 23, 2011.

Porfilio, a 5-foot-2 distance runner, helped the Martlets capture the RSEQ provincial cross-country championship meet in Chicoutimi, Saturday. A product of Champlain College in St. Lambert, Que., the 19-year-old nursing freshman finished fourth of 73 entries. She completed the five-kilometre course in 19 minutes, 51 seconds. She has been McGill's top scorer in all five races this season and was named as the conference rookie of the year.

Wright, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound forward with the men's hockey team, scored three points in two weekend victories. The 21-year-old economics senior assisted on the winning marker in Saturday's 3-2 decision over Concordia, then added two more helpers, setting up the winning tally in Sunday's 3-0 victory at Ottawa. Prior to McGill, he attended the Crescent School while playing for the North York Rangers of the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
