Otto Maass, Pulp and Paper building renovations

Published: 25 August 2011

Renovations  to the Otto Maass building are almost finished:

The second floor, corner block, laboratory has been entirely renovated and researchers have begun to move back in. The lab was completely overhauled, with new plumbing, electrical and ventilation services, exhaust hoods and lab benches. A new layout will make more efficient use of the space in this busy lab.

Mechanical rooms have been extensively upgraded and the new ventilation system is now running. The temporary ventilation ducts on the building exterior have been removed.

A new heat reclamation system has been installed to transfer the heat from the Burnside computer equipment room to Otto Maass. This elegant system will vent excess heat from Burnside and use it to reduce energy consumption at Otto Maass.

The second floor, north block, labs have been demolished and framing is being installed for the new layout. Construction will be completed by the end of December.

The construction fence on the Otto Maass grounds will be removed by the end of September. The area will be restored as a green space on lower campus.
