Ottawa Citizen - $20,000 in her pocket: Ottawa violonist heads to London to study, thanks to arts patron's support

Published: 30 September 2011

She's a talented Ottawa violinist who dreams of an orchestral career, so Yolanda Bruno says she's thrilled to be beginning graduate studies at London's prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama. At 21, the McGill University grad with a long string of prizes behind her is working with a teacher she says is inspiring. And she's living in a city where she can hear the world's great orchestras, soloists and chamber musicians week after week in London's many concert halls.

But Bruno says she would not have been able to accept the school's offer if it had not been for the generosity of the late Ottawa music lover whose charitable foundation helped her get there, with a $20,000 award.
